The emperor dragonfly is the UK’s largest dragonfly and is bright blue and green. It can be seen in the summer near well vegetated ponds and lakes. Dragonflies are one of the fastest insects in the UK and can fly forwards, backwards and sideways. Dragonflies first appeared on earth 300 million years ago.
